The Golden Years

You know, I try to keep my rants to a minimum, but I just have to throw this one in to round out my first week of blogging.  What could it be, and what does the title mean, you might ask?  Well, I have been a victim of the endless frustrating moments of dealing with the elderly drivers that our roads are plagued with.  Maybe it is because we are one of the many retirement destinations or just because I am becoming more and more aware of it!

Whichever reason it is, I believe that it is the most aggravating factor on the road.  I can deal with the teenager blowing my doors off at times, or the soccer Mom being cautious in her SUV that is too  big for her to handle.  However, the old person that takes a corner like they are driving an eighteen wheel truck, goes fifteen miles per hour UNDER the speed limit, or wiggles their way into a parking spot by going back and forth over and over, I believe, is the most dangerous driver on the road!

After all, the faster paced things on the road we are ready for and know to look out for.  However, statistically someone going under the speed limit causes more crashes than any other driver.  Also, the younger, more impatient drivers, gauge a person taking a corner without caution and are more apt to run into someone that takes nearly a minute to make a ninety degree turn.  So, yes, I think there is a legitimate reason to believing that the older you are the more stringent your driving test and requirements need to be.

People need to learn to step up and remove driving privileges from some of the older generation.  I know, I know, this depresses them because they are losing their ability to get around on their own.  But, do you really want that to be your excuse when they mow down some kid because their reflexes are too slow or drive through a storefront because they got confused between the gas and brake?  Of course you do not want to see your parents like that, so do the right thing and GET THEM OFF THE ROAD!

And NO, I DO NOT hate old people!  I just think there is a large demographic of them that are dangerous to those of us on the roadways...
